On December 15, in Kiev, a scientific symposium “ORTODONTIA TODAY. PATH TO HUMAN HEALTH” was held. It was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Orthodontics Department of the Institute of Stomatology at Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. One of the lecturers of the symposium wasthe doctor of our clinic, a maxillofacial and orthognathic surgeon, an implantologist, a member of the Ukrainian Dental Association, the elect president of the Association of Ukrainian Implantologists, a member of the Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeons of Ukraine, a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, a member of the International Team of Implantology, a member of the German Implantology Association International Team of Implantology study club, a visiting professor UIC (Spain) Dubnov A.V. Artem Vasilievich devoted his speech to the topic of cooperation between orthodontists and orthognathic surgeons for the sake of achieving a common goal, namely: a correct bite, a harmonious face and the health of the patient systemically.
There are situations when it is simply impossible to correct an occlusion (bite) and to reach optimum treatment only by means of orthodontic appliances. Then the orthognathic surgeon comes to the aid to the orthodontist. The orthognathic surgeon and orthodontist work in symbiosis: the orthodontist begins the treatment, then at appropriate time the orthognathic surgery (surgical correction of bite) is performed, and the patient finishes the treatment with his orthodontist, visiting also the orthognathic surgeon for a follow-up examination periodically. Thus, working together to achieve a common goal, which is the best result of treatment and meeting the patient’s expectations, the orthodontist and orthognathic surgeon perform their work consistently as a team.
Are you dissatisfied with the bite, or your teeth do not occlude, or you are unhappy with your chin, facial features, or are there other questions? Ask your orthodontist about all possible treatment options or visit the orthognathic surgeon in our clinic.
